Im new to touring, and to be honest don't know alot about specifics that make up a bike.

Ive narrowed my choice down to 2 bikes:

http://www.tredz.co.uk/.Dawes-Vantage-2011-Touring-Bike_33048.htm

http://www.tredz.co.uk/.Claud Butler-Claud-Butler-Regent-2011-Touring-Bike_34244.htm

as harry hill says.. but which is better?!

I wont be going half way round the world either, just trips for a week or so at a time, maybe more, maybe less but around that mark. These two are right in my price range also.

Any comments appreciated

if you can test ride them then buy the one that's most comfortable for you,
equipment wise there much of a muchness, both will do the job no problem.

There's really only one way to find out -- BIKE FIGHT

There's not really a lot to choose between them. The Dawes has slightly lower gears (and is red). Both would be fine.

But looking at that site the most popular sizes are sold out - so check whether the size you need is available. Bikes from Edinburgh Bike Coop bikes have a good reputation. Or if you don't mind a 'trekking' bike Decathlon do one that is extremely good value.

Thanks for the replies! I must admit I think I prefer the Dawes, its a good brand, and I like that is has slight lower gears.

JohnHenry - good to see a HH fan & someone who understood it

Get niether. Do as AndyM says and get yourself an Edinburgh Bike Coop Traveller. They're not much more than the two you're looking at and far better
