Which Bike Box?

Borrowed both I'd say the scion was more easy to carry/ manoeuvre but the BBA was more rugged/secure. I think for the limited times I fly the BBA would be my choice but if I was a frequent traveller I'd reconsider.

I have a bike box Alan. It has a feckin great hole in it where the metal pole they supplied popped through the case when it was in the hold, rendering the thing useless. Fortunately the airline paid out on it.

The last three flights I used a cardboard bike box given free of charge from the lbs. Just as good, much cheaper and you can throw it away and get another one when your ready thus saving on storage space.

My BikeBox Alan has just arrived and it is absolutely huge! I can't fit the thing in my car. Which isn't small, it wont fit in the boot, and I can't get it through the rear doors to fit on the back seat. Thankfully my wife car is a hatchback and it will fit in there, just. This does make the whole idea of the bike box 50% useless if it will only fit in one of our cars though

Oh yeah, there's that too, they are very big, had to strap ours to the roof bars.

If I have to get roof bars too this is becoming a very expensive solution and I'm now struggling to find somewhere to store it in the garage

Aye, I have rafters in the roof of my garage so it goes up there and as I said up thread the last three trips we've used cardboard boxes. I'm glad we never paid for the Alan.

Update: Just back from Calpe with the BBA, not that impressed. The hinges didn't line up on one side after I put the bike in the box and needed some "persuasion" to enable me to close the box. The front wheel, with 25c tubeless tyres didn't fare too well either, very difficult to locate and it unseated the tyre so I had to use the wheel with an inner tube while I was away. On the return the benniconnect bus driver rammed the box in the boot wheel side down and as the pick ups continued loaded other suitcases on top, when we got to the airport the box had a distinct hollow in it, I was dreading unlocking it and seeing what damage had been done.

To be fair all was well but it wasn't a great experience

BBA :okay:
Bought two for me n her and went to Spain with them to watch the tail end of the Vuelta. We've got an 06 Astra and with the seats down got the two boxes, two medium sized suitcases, two sets of hand luggage and two people in with no room for anything else!

No issues at all with the boxes and enough room inside to pack all the cycling gear including a track pump. They seem very well made with enough padding for our two babies
