Where to mount a 2nd rear light.

When commuting I usually use a rack top bag to carry my gear. This being on the rack would block any light mounted on the seat post so at the moment I have a single light mounted on the bracket at the rear of the rack. I did have a light clipped onto the light loop on the bag but that shook off and self destructed on the road after a mile this morning. Obviously I am not willing to risk putting a light on the bag again so as far as I can see I am out of options for rear-mounted lights.

The seat stay seems the next best place but I would assume that the legs of the pannier rack would obscure any light mounted there.

Would there be another place on the bike that would be ideal for a rear light?

go with the bag loop but zip tie the lamp on.

My old Lidl helmet had a flashing light on the back

I took this off and screwed a small brass picture holder (like a loop with a screw thread that you screw in the back of a frame) into the plastic

Then put a tie wrap through the hoop and onto the rear of the frame

Jobs a good un

(That took some describing   )

I often cycle with a set of four panniers fitted to my hybrid, and tow a trailer, which presented me with the problem of where to mount my rear light so it could be used with or without the pannier bags:

Being a practical person, I came up with this solution; Aluminum strips fitted to the rack stays with steel cable clamps holding them in place on both sides. I filed notches into the aluminum strips to provide positive grip positions for bungee hooks to attach to when securing loads to my rack:

I attach a fibre flare shorty to the loop on the back of my cycling jacket collar, the clip on the flare is excellent and also allows it to clip to jersey pockets and back packs etc. As the light is a small tube which illuminates all round, moving about on you back or bag is not an issue and is always visible from behind.
