Paid for a bike fit at the Giant store (down Prudhoe if its the same one). Couldn't have been more helpful and absolutely delighted with the fitting (cost me £65). Very very helpful and informative, ex pro cyclist etc etc. So pleased with it recommended them to friends etc...however, one mate went and bought a bike from them and was very disappointed with the 'free bike fit' he got with it, took half the time mine did, guy wasn't interested and didn't seem to get half the things I got (for example, he sat me on a power meter, measured the power going through each pedal and where my foot position should be etc etc, my mate got nothing like that at all).
I have also bought a bike from Edinburgh coop, again, mixed experiences, overall very pleasant, know there stuff and happy to deal with them, however, when I was in their store looking for a cyclocross bike one of the assistants came over, told her what I was looking for and she first of all directed me to the road bikes, then when I said I don't think its them (I was very new, never bought a cyclocross before) she said ah we mustn't have any then...I pointed to the ones hung up and said I think they look like they might be cyclocross and she said no they were not. I left a bit annoyed and confused, went back the next day and spoke to someone different who took me straight to the 10 or so cx bikes they had sure enough hung up where I had pointed to them.
I did actually complain about this, got a tel call from the manager, very pleased I had bought it to his attention and helped identify a training need...
So....not sure any of that helps you !. Personally, I think I would maybe go Edinburgh, get £150 worth free accessories but then pay for the bike fit at Giant, or make sure the bike fit (I found it massively worthwhile) is a full proper one (it lasted 11/2 hours I think), my mates was half an hour if that. Thing is, if they do recommend any changes you will have to pay for the components (stem, handlebar etc) ...
