Where can I get a 40 tooth, L.H.S. cottered chainset for an old tandem?

Not especially at this point but I thought I'd put the word out before I started converting things. It may be that there are no readily available chainsets of that size. I've done a quick search and didn't find any in eithr cottered or non cottered cranks so could end up having to reconfigure the whole drive train which will be costly. It is the "costly" that I'm trying to avoid mostly and thought that there might, just might be some one out there who knows where one can be had.

You can use/misuse a r.h.d. crank and chainwheel, only differrence is pedal thread, not an issue if you use threadlock. Does mean buying another set of pedals just to use one though. Have done this by the way and worked fine

Good idea if you're sure thread lock will hold it. Can't hurt to try I suppose...Unless the pedal comes off obviously but still.

Make sure to wash both male and female threads thoroughly with meths or similar, allow to dry and apply thread lock. Tighten perhaps a little more than you would normally, leave for 24 hours. Job done. I used one done this way for 2 years before selling on. Current owners have had for eight years and still holding.

Thread locking the pedal threads is what some BMXers and Hipsters do when they want to run their chain on the left hand side of the bike. Although unlike your tandem application, there's no rational reason for doing this except to look different.
