Right folks...

When I'm standing on the pedals and pushing hard the rear wheel rubs against the brake pads. I loosened the caliper when I was heading up a hill today to see if the noise stopped and it did!

I'm 140lbs so not exactly a heavy weight and the wheel seems true....as far as I can tell. Spokes seem tensioned well enough, skewer is straight...

The wheels are Aksiums which came with the bike....been looking at a wheel upgrade anyway but just wondering....

...are the wheels just shite and flexing too much or what the frig is happening?

Thanks people!

Could it be the frame flexing? My tricross flexes like hell when going up hill with a tent and panniers on the back.

Thanks guys..the rim doesn't move at all when pushed sideways I checked that too...

...should there be that much flex in a new carbon frame?

It's probably flex.

Grab hold of the wheel and try and pull it towards one of the brake pads - it will probably touch it with some effort.

Aye, (assuming bearings adjusted right and skewers tight) it'll be your wheels flexing. It won't be the frame flexing.

I don't know the Aksiums but assuming they came with the bike they won't be top drawer wheels.

You could adjust your brakes (with the barrel adjuster) so that they are not as close to the rims in the normal position.

I've can get all three of my sets of wheels to flex against the pads unless I back the pads off the with the adjuster. (Mavic Cosmic, Bontrager Race Lite and American Classic 420).

Better wheels will help too. Perfect excuse to 'upgrade'
