Need to ask these question as I dont know what to look for

I need a spare wheelset for my 2011 Specialized Tricross Sport

I'm running with the standard wheels but have removed the 32mm Borough CXs that came with it and put 28mm Conti Hardshells on for road use.

But I still want the beefier Borough CX set up for off road(and winter) and have seen some wheels which are within budget and can do a quick swap over to suit the conditions

The Tricross spec is this below (or full spec on this link http://www.evanscycles.com/products/specialized/tricross-sport-2011-road-bike-ec025020#features)

Cassette Shimano HG-50, 9 speed 11-32

Rims:Mavic CXP22

Front Hub:Forged alloy Hub, sealed bearings, 32 hole, for J bend round spokes

Rear Hub:Forged aluminium, 32 hole, double sealed ball bearings, cassette, Quick Release
Spokes:Stainless 14g

The wheels I have seen are these

They dont have a rear cassette on though

Questions are, would this wheelset be equivalent and do I just buy a 11-32 cassette and fit this to the wheel/how do I fit/special tools

Sorry if its a numbnuts question I suppose best to ask than buy the wrong things

Many thanks for any help

Its something that a lot of us Tricross owners think about for faster rides. I went for the alternative and bought another bike

Those wheels are fine, as is the cassette you mention. SRAM seem to be the best bet, rather than Shimano. You'll need a cassette lockring tool as well, which will cost less than £10. For removing a cassette, you may need a chain whip. Your LBS will have them all in stock.

I have gone the other option and just swap tyres over when needed, only takes 20 minutes and costs a lot less.
You may have trouble if having two wheelsets with things like chain/cassette wear, would you keep the same chain on both wheels? Or would you swap the cassette over each time?

Thanks for that 2pies

@ Potsy

Simply a straight like for like swap over of wheelset with a cassette on both so I cant see any issues with wear

I'm probably am being lazy in not just swapping the tyres over, but its a nice (although more expensive) option ^_^

Ok I've decided to buy the wheelset and they have even offered to fit the cassette free of charge for me

I know they're not a top spec wheel but they have Tiagra hub and will do for a bit of off road/winter use

Ended up getting the wheelset from my LBS as Graham Weigh Cycles who I was going to buy off decided to stop answering my emails

ended up paying around £20.00 more, but I suppose not having to wait for the delivery was a bonus.

For the price I'm quite pleased, these came with Shimano hubs and I've had the same 11-32 Shimano Cassette fitted as my other wheels, but apart from the tyres (oh and silver spokes not black) they're an exact like for like swap over when I need to.

Going to do an off road route this weekend

I'll post some piccies up when it stops raining

Piccies as promised

I like the silver spokes and writing on the rims, really lifts the look of the bike

Just going to try them out tonight

At least your old chain doesn't look dirty on the new cassette!

... I cleaned that chain today ^_^

As you can see I'm back

32mm tyres are great for the rougher roads I just tried out, but I still find them harder work than my 28s on the normal
roads, especially the hills (up hill that is )

Good job I had them on though as I went through a pile of dry looking clay and hit a small rock hidden in the mound

32s just bounced over it
