Have stripped down the Shimano hubs on my road bike to check bearings etc.

Rear wheel cups and cones and bearings all look like new.

Front wheel cups like new , one cone like new and one cone is slightly pitted.

Do I just replace the pitted cone and all the bearings or should I change all the cones?

Will go into LBS for bits on tuesday so any advice welcomed.

I'd replace the pitted cone (provided you can get a spare), and new bearings for the pitted side.

Ok thanks for that. funny how the just the one was pitted. The grease looked like new. Not bad for about 4000 miles in all weathers.

Like said I'd replace the pitted cone if you can get hold of one. The road bike repair book I've got also says replace ball bearings that don't polish up to a mirror finish or if there is any damage to the cones; it also says however, it is good practice to always replace the bearings

Ok that makes it all crystal clear then :-). For what it costs I may as well be on the safe side and change all the bearings for peace of mind.
