Hi,
I have a hybrid bike with 622-20 wheels and 700 x 40C tyres. Can anyone suggest any tyres for road / light trail riding?

I've had a look at the Sheldon Brown website to find out what size tyres will fit my wheels, but I'm now more confused that I was previously.

Many thanks for your help
Emma

You could go down to something like 32c tyres which should be fine for what you intend. Won't be a tremendous difference over what you have now though. Can I ask what is the reason you want to change?

Hi and :welcome: Emma.

On those rims (622mm is the rim diameter, also known as 700C size, and 20mm is the width) you should be okay going down to 32mm tyres.

I also wonder why you want to change? For what it's worth though, I ride mainly road with bridleways and trails thrown in and find a touring tyre good for this. I have Continental TourRide on my knockabout bike and Schwalbe Marathon on the best bike and would be happy to recommend either.

Hi,

The right tyre, rather than width matters most depending on
on the the ratio of road to trial use, and the quality of your
current tyres, compared to what is generally available.

I am going on a cycle tour of northern Ireland in August and I'm starting to cycle from work to home (25 miles) at least twice a week. I wanted a good quality tyre to hopefully decrease my commute time and make my bike (and me) more efficient.

A large proportion of my cycling is done on roads, so I wanted a tyre appropriate to mostly road riding.

Hi,

Planet X are doing some great deals on 37mm - 40mm Vittoria randonneur tyres.

Don't think you'l find nicer tyres easily at that sort of price.

These are exceptional value :

add something else fairly cheap to get to get free postage, (total >£20)

rgds, sreten.

At the right pressures whilst thinner tyres are faster on good roads, fatter tyres
are faster on bad roads, more comfortable all the time, better at mild off road
and less likely to puncture due to pinch flats. I like fatter tyres.
