Hi guys,

I had a problem with rear wheel spoke tension on my Giant rapid 1 after only 250 miles from new. I got them re-tensioned by the LBS. 50 miles later and another 1 has come undone again. LBS said to contact the where I bought it (internet shop) they got in touch with Giant, who said they'd replace the wheel. Great!, I thought.

Today the new wheel came. It's an SR2 wheel rather than the PR2 which came was on the bike originally. I don't know much about wheels etc, but the SR2 is on the cheaper models in the same range. It has a Tiagra hub, rather than the Giant hub on the PR2 wheel, and is has 32 spokes as opposed to 28.

Now, the question i'd like to ask is, what do you think I should do? tell them I want the proper one, or, keep this one? I weight 18st and I don't know if having 32 spokes rather than 28 will make the wheel much stronger? surely a 28 spoke wheel which is set up correctly will be sufficient for someone who is 18st? I don't even have the largest frame size, so they must be expecting some big people to ride.

Many thanks in advance and sorry for boring you

I think I'd want an original one so that it matches the front (guessing there are graphics on them PR2 SR2).

If it looks odd and its important to you i'd ask for a matching wheel,in regards to weight I was riding 24 rear spoke wheels at 18st with no issues I had more issues with the 32 spoke wheels my bike came with originally, wheel quality matters imo

Tall doesn't mean heavy!

Its pretty much the same but yeah it says WR2 rather than PR2 on the rim. The only other difference is the hub is a silver Tiagra rather than the black Giant hub on the Front.

I know tall doesn't mean heavy, but these bikes are aimed at the average man in the street. I'd guess the average 6ft6 man is going to be quite heavy and that's what Giant recommended for the max height for this model.

Cool, thanks. I still wouldn't have thought a wheel would start falling to bits after 250 mile? it was a £1000 bike!! lol.
