How much should I expect to pay at my LBS for wheel trueing.

I've just bought a brand new Marin Larkspur and both wheels are out by enough to bind on the brake blocks.

The shop I got it from is 100 miles away so not worth taking them in due to cost of petrol.

I thought the rims on a top name would be better, the Xero R3s on my Raleigh U6 are much much better than these Alex TA-20 rims.

I paid £9 for a new spoke and wheel re-truing at my LBS

I thought £6 was cheap for a same day service but £5

My next door neighbors have three Marin bikes. I'm not that impressed with the spec of them.

The bike may had been dunted whilst it was still in the box.

I've paid £5/wheel in Dolgellau (North Wales) and £12/wheel in Guildford (Surrey). However not all wheel truing is of the same quality. Just making the wheel round without attending to uneven or inadequate spoke tension can mean you'll be back in the shop in a month.

One would hope that more expensive wheel truing would be done better - but it isn't guaranteed. So maybe the OP can say where s/he lives and someone can recommend a good wheel builder or LBS in that area?
