I`m trying to get someone fixed up with a used basic MTB for occasional use on the local canal
So there is this cheap used MTB on flea bay with scant details in the description , and I`m only looking for a MTB that has 26 inch wheels. I`ve messaged the seller and asked, "what size are the wheels"?
The seller replied with, "the radius is 30cm" :banghead:

I cannot honestly say this has helped me, and I`m not renowned for having a lot of patience lol. Does anyone here know what that radius figure equates to in wheel size?

Ask him for a photo of the tyre with the tyre size showing.if it starts 26x....then your fine if not.....

Hard to imagine a normal mountain bike not being 26" though.

So called 26 inch MTB wheels have a bead seat diameter of 559m. That's a radius of 279.5mm. Add a bit for the tyre and you're near 300mm. rouble is, we don't know where the seller measured the radius to. Best bet is to ask for clarification, by reading the size off the side of the tyre.

If it's to the outside of the tyre could well be a 26". Curiosity got the better of me and taking a ruler to my 26" bike didn't really give me 13" radius anywhere - the radius to the ouside of the rim is more like 11" so lord knows why it's deemed a 26" - which it is, and is written on t

Best ask the bloke what is says on the tyre

Bit of a difference between 26 inch and 11 inch though.

Without getting the read off the tyre it's impossible to say for certain, it could be 26" or 27.5+, everyone seems to be assuming that the measurement was taken properly. There could be a poorly inflated tire and measured from the ground to the edge of the hub. Who knows.
