Not so. I've not had much expereince with thru axles but I do understand they are a completely different beast to regular forks. They have no dropouts as such, instead having a fully enclosed hole which a 20mm axle (rather than the usual 9mm) passes through rather than drops into like a normal dropout. The axle is part of the fork, not the hub as such. I think the hub spacing is 10mm smaller as well (100mm instead of 110). I think the wheel needs to be thru axle.

Assuming he already has a thru axle wheel, quick release axles are available. In fact the newer Argyles come with them as standard so if your mate doesn't have one, then he needs to see if he can get a hold of a maxle 360 quick release.

Some front hubs (like Hopes) can be very quickly switched between being a quick release and a thru axle.

A standard quick release wheel wont fit.
