Hi Ali,

Just have a look. Your gears, levers etc will be clearly marked either shimano or Campagnolo.

I'd guess Shimano, but do check before you buy.

What make is your rear gear? Shimano and Campagnolo are the two major manufacturers and others comply with their gear patterns. Each of them (Campag and Shim) have slightly different methods for making the hubs that the rear gears go on - they are incompatible - this means that if you have Shimano gears/mechanism you will need to stick with the Shimano option and vice versa.

If you are completely stuck - post a picture of your rear gears and someone on here will identify the correct bit of kit for you

I'm confused.

You are new to cycling. Is the bike a 'beat-up' used thing you bought somewhere?
Why new wheels? Everything can be repaired for less than a new wheelset.

Take them to your LBS.
