Wheel upgrade time is approaching (bonus at end of July)

Ideally under £500.

Liking the mavic ksyruim elite at the moment coming in at 1550grams, but the equipe is also decent at 1690grams plus they do white which look amazing.

Are there any other options which would be worth considering?

Cheers

My god, just going through the planet-x website and there are some crazy good wheel sets on there in budget, this is going to be more complicated than I thought

Dura ace c24s are great, but a bit over your budget. The ksyriums elites seem to be the best compromise of strenghr, cost and weight. The equips are a bit heavier.

I went for Planet X Model B's as they were the lightest and cheapest of the wheels I was looking at. In the 1500miles I've had them, too early to form any substantive opinion, they've been great wheels accelerate good. Their finish quality is the best though and I can feel with my fingers small imperfections in the spokes although they are still perfectly true (I'm not the heaviest of riders though).

ok bit of a noob question..

the deep carbon rims seem heavier than the normal equivs.. is the advantage totally aero over a standard depth rim? hence the big deal about them?

not by enough to worry about! amazing price seemingly. Id find the extra £80 if theyre really that good?

they are really that good, but PX has no stock at that price currently. The RS80 is a near identical wheel - ultegra-level hub (as opposed to DA), but the same rim - so on the road they feel pretty much identical. They would be my choice for that price level.

Deep section rims are useful if you spend most of your time over 25mph - if you don't, then don't bother. Not worth it for everyday use...and only really worth it if you go for the lightest option, which usually means full carbon and tubular.

I couldn't quote you figures but if you are TT'ing the aero advantage does indeed outweigh the weight (think full aero wheels); I could be wrong but they might compromise handling for regular rides however and greater than 50mm (?) is banned by the uci for road races.
