Decathlon stuff is normally good quality and reasonably priced. For £269 and a two year warranty you can't go wrong with this bike. Although the ad does contradict itself by stating 27spd so 3x9 ratios, but then below in the detailed spec it states 3x8 so 24psd.

Like all bikes you should ride it first to make sure it FITS you properly and is what you want.

What do you mean "you want to know about the wear and tear". You aniticipate buying a new bike or have I missed something and you are actually buying 2nd hand?

I have never bought a bike from Decathlon, but clothing and bike consumables such as brake blocks I have and it has all been cheap good stuff that is in some cases still in use quite a few years after I bought it. There have been very favourable reviews of Decathlon VTT (MTB) in the cycling mags from time to time.

In France there is a Decathlon in almost every large town/city. A pity this is not the case in the UK. I guess the French are a lot more energetic than us Brits, the majority of whom, are basically fat slobs.

Though it's similar to my Virtuoso just with a triple c/set, I actually would quite like one of these. Basically because it's newer and shinier and I'm magpie-like in that way!

At that price, you could do a LOT worse than the Decathlon

Cheers for that, I meant that I wanted to know if their parts are good quality, or if they'll brake instantly. Seems it's good though. I'm going to go in again some time and have a test ride.

I have not personally had a decathlon bike but i know a few people here say they are good value for money ,if i had not have had a virtuosso and decathlon was not 40 miles or so away i would have had one like that.

I'll have to test both and see which I prefer. Still a bit egghhhh about buying a cheaper bike though, just because you get what you pay for. /bikesnob

Hi

My neighbour has a basic Decathlon road bike and it's been excellent, a lot for your money and a pretty good place to start. He's done up to 80-odd milers on it woith no problems Just make sure it fits you well.

Cheers, helps a lot, gonna try both, it's basically which ever bike feels stiffer, going for the sprinting setup.

I had a Dec roady from 2005 till last year, when I was in an accident on it. I think it's a write-off. It was in the upper part of their range, 900Eu. It was very nice indeed, 105 groupset etc. That said some of the parts were non branded/Dec own and while they worked perfectly the finish left a bit to be desired. A couple of years on the plating fell off and the parts started looking a bit shabby. Other than that the wheels were a bit cheap, Rigida rims and ordinary hubs etc. Overall though it was a great deal and all the important bits were bang on.

I have owned a Decathlon Fitness 3 for a few months, and am very pleased with all aspects of it. It offers immense value for money; I couldn't find anything else with carbon forks AND seat stays for under £500. The finishing kit is unidentified, but is nevertheless of satisfactory quality. The frame is great, and the bike was well-prepared apart from a tight front wheel bearing. My wife has a Decathlon beach cruiser, and that has been perfect; I'd recommend them to anyone.

I have the old sport2 (similar spec and price to the new sport1) - no problem so far, done several 100+ mile days on it

Wife has the model in question - sport1 - well speced and very good value
