What's the best method for cleaning handlebar tape?

I have white handlebar tape on my Cube and it's already looking grubby, from my mitts I suppose. Any ideas on how to get it clean again?

Thanks, that's very helpful. I'll try GT85 first cos that's easiest, if that doesn't work I'll try WD40 and if it's still dirty after that I'll go for the bleach option.

Don't forget to keep your gloves clean too, there's not much point cleaning your grips if your mits are still dirty!

That's certainly what has caused the marks, I've never had white tape before so it never occured to me that my gloves might be dirty.

My Focus came with white tape, I changed it after 2 months to some black and red Fizik dual stuff. That's done 8 months and still looks like new. Will be trying some green next to match club colours. Could never get the white clean no matter what I tried.

Works very well on pale blue. Failing that, buy black. Only one of my bikes has the fancy 'light' coloured bar tape.

Massage Swarfega into the tape and leave it a few minutes before washing it off. Oil stains need a bit more effort so scrub the Swarfega in with a nail brush
