Hi,

Im looking to change my kraken for a road bike (No rush, I need a good deal or sale).

If I buy a second hand one, what components are likey to be needing replacing if it has already done 1000 miles? (Excluding pads, chain and tyres)

Or should it be ready to rak up the miles as is?

1000 miles is nothing for a road bike. Providing its been reasonably well maintained you'll just be able to leap on and ride!

Depending on the user/ use I wouldn't expect any items would need replaced at 1000 miles. A little down the line maybe 500 miles, you will need new chain/ cassette/ pads perhaps but even thats variable.

Seriously. If someone is selling a 1000 miles roadbike at a bargain price, there might be something array with it. Nicked, or a bent frame.

The older I get, the faster I used to be ...
1000 miles = 10 weeks @100miles, 5 @ 200 etc etc - that is: nothing! I would expect a 1000 mile bike to be fairly immaculate, and if it wasn't I wouldn't even think about buying it. My own Ribble has now done well in excess of 6000miles, and the only replacement necessary has been one pair of brake blocks - due to a metal shard in one of the blocks rather than them being worn down completely. The chain is still not registering any wear on a Park Tool checker.
Edit: - and I forgot - also changed the tyres, but that was not really necessary, still many miles left in the original Conti Ultra Sports, just fancied trying P3Rs.

Cheers for all the info lads, its good to know that secondhand should be ok to buy. I will not buy anthing "dodgey" as I know I would kill anyone that messes with my bike!

There have been some on Gumtree going at excellent prices, Im sure they cant be 100% legit.
