Since riding on the turbo (4 times) I've checked my tyre religiously. I noticed after ride 2 that this had happened:

Actually, the first image shows what I've noticed. Today I decided to hop on to make sure the bike was setup ok. Seems I have a flat spot over where this cut is. It makes a vibration through the saddle when riding.

Now, I've got no idea whether this happened on the trainer or outside due to a skid or what. Either way, it's bloody annoying. I've felt the turbo wheel, it's very smooth and no bumps. Watching my tyre go round is a different story. It's bumpy as tits.

Always remove tyre from turbo wheel after use, so no melting has occurred. Just seems odd how a tyre can split and flat spot on a perfectly smooth and round trainer wheel.

Anyone have any ideas? Apart from the fact I need a new tyre.

Did you ever use the bike brakes whilst on the turbo?

So my reason for asking is; perhaps of you used the bike brakes when wheel stopped spinning, but the roller on the TT kept going causing a flat spot. However, if you did this a long time ago and ridden since then I guess that can be discounted.

I am more worried about the apparent blood stain on the wall - did you try rollers before getting a turbo trainer?

Ha! Never noticed that before. I think the previous owners must have used it as a dungeon or something.

No I've never held the brakes ok, the trainer is always butted up quite tight. What I do know, is that I need a turbo specific wheel. As this shoot is going to drive me nuts come winter.

I bought myself a new rear wheel and cassette recently,and stuck a turbo tyre on the old wheel - wish I'd done it ages ago instead of ballsing around changing the tyre over.
So much handier switching wheels on those bad weather evenings :bicycle:

Trainer is always butted up tight ?...do you mean you exert a lot of pressure on the tensioning handle to force the roller against the tyre ?
I have the same turbo and simply run my Conti Gators on it, always have, no problems at all. Tyres dont wear, roller or tyre never get warm let alone hot, no shredding, no dust, nothing. But I don't put too much tension on the roller/tyre. But them my turbo work is really just getting the legs working, not going hell for leather so I dont really test it that much.
The flat spot could be anything, too much pressure on the roller ...wouldnt have thought itd cause that, braking...youve already considered that, done outside, skidding...maybe, maybe just a faulty tyre even.

Could be right. Thinking about it I remember getting 'vibration' through the drivetrain from new. Could be the tyre when up to speed.

Anyway, I've set the trainer up as it states on the manual. Tyre just touches when in the mid position, then fully engaged it pushes into the tyre slightly.
