What's a bargain in the USA

I've got to go to the US ( New York and Chicago) for work soon. Are there any cycling bargains worth having out there?

I did a trawl of the Manhattan bike shops in July, frankly they were complete rubbish, a big Evans is way better!

Bontrager etc is a little cheaper versus the shops here ($ vs. £), but I expect you could get most things as cheaply online. The exchange rate is $1.5ish at the moment

This place claims to be the world's largest cycling shop, I didn't have time to get there (over in Brooklyn, reachable by subway), might be worth a traipse, but it's top end stuff

I am always eyeing up jealously the prices of CX tub wheelsets over there. Same price in USD as over here in GBP.

They pay a lot more for their tubs though, so it kinda works out

RA Cycles is a big place, but not the cheapest and heavily into European brands.

Best deals are online, order from a state registered without sales tax, you save even more, there should be no problem having it delivered to a hotel.

American brands are tons cheaper, e.g. Spesh, and Shimano stuff is cheaper than in Europe (expect to pay the same dollars instead of sterling). Campag was always expensive when I was there.

It's only a bargain if you really need it.

As you don't know what you need, I'd say there's no bargains to be had.

I am a UK distributor for 2 USA companies, the cost is in getting it here so bringing something back can be a big saving. That said it has to be a bargain there before it becomes one here. I prefer to buy want I want rather than what is cheap. So find out what you want or need and then search.
