New crank. You don't want a pedal falling off. Sjs cycles sell single cranks.

There will be a Loctite product that would probably do the job but they are quite expensive, it might be worth cadging some (as in take the bike in with you) from a friendly engineering works or old-style garage. I don't think you could ever trust it though.

Is there anybody near you that does bike recycling? There's one near me http://www.fifebikeworks.org.uk/ so I'm sure there must be more.

Would you ever be able to trust a repair sufficiently?
A helicoil would probably be ok but anything involving any kind of glue/bonding agent would always be a bit of a worry and you'd have to replace it eventually anyway when the pedal bearings go.
If its a left crank, you can get a new one from St John Street for about £10, otherwise New crankset from Spa for £20, if they are compatible with what other components you have.
