With Autumn and Winter coming up, the nights are getting darker and the weather is getting worse. I've never cycled in Winter before but I doubt I'll feel confident with 23mm tyres. Does anyone know what the thickest tyre is that can be put onto a Triban 3 - if so, what tyre would you recommend?

You'll get 25mm tyres on it but 28 might be a push.

To be honest I wouldn't worry too much about riding in the winter on 23mm though. I bought the bike in winter, it was my 1st road bike and got on fine with the stock tyres. Just take it easy on the corners until your confidence grows.

Go with 25c and the best tyre you can afford. Will help with comfort and grip.
Something like marathon +,or GP 4 seasons

Personally I would keep the 23s on there until you get used to the bike. IMHO, you will notice virtually no difference at all by putting on 25s, other than less clearance, should you decide to fit crud mudguards at some point. Save yourself the additional hassle and expense and just give yourself some time to ride on them...

Triban 3 doesn't have much room for a bigger diameter tyre so going to wider might cause you a problem at the tops of the forks.

Don't change the tyres because they are 23's, they will be fine.

Only change them if they are A) worn, or B) you are having puncture issues.

IMO all stock tyres are pretty crap, it's just some are more crap than others.

If it were me I'd stick some Conti Gatorskins on and crack on

They lasted 1500 miles before I switched them out but they look like they have plenty of life left to be honest. I just changed because I upgraded the wheels.

I had no issues with their grip either.

I took them straight off my son's Triban and fitted them to the old bike we were selling. I thought they felt harsh, the Specialized Pros I fitted in their place give a good ride but take up a lot of room under the brakes, so much so that I can't even squeeze a set of Crud guards in.
