I'm looking to get some fast road tyres for 25 mile time trials for my Focus Cayo 105. I'm currently using Schwalbe Luganos which I've read are a budget slow all-round type tyre.

Should I look at 700x20mm or 23mm (I'm fairly big and heavy!)

And what tyres? Michelin Pro3s any good???

Note too expensive though - £30 per tyre max. and no crazy colours!

cheers

Any particular 25s in mind?

Pro3s or GP4000s should be fine.

I'm doing the East Anglian CC 25 in a few weeks time. My first time trial since 1992! My best as a youngster was 1h 2mins but now I'm hoping to get under 1h 10mins although my bike is significantly better than the old secondhand machines I used to race on - shame I'm about 5 stone heavier now!

Have ordered a pair of Pro3s - I guessed that they would be the number choice! Gone for the Black and Grey ones......

Don't forget you could always do the Godric club 25 on Sat afternoon starting between Bungay and Earsham at 2pm, just turn up and ride. Good choice in tyres, though I would have said try Pedal Rev in the city they had Pro Race 3's and Ultremo's on offer last week cheaper than I've seen online

Marketing hype....and way over the stated £30 budget.

Slowtwitchers reckon the fastest and most aerodynamic clincher is the Bontrager Race X Lite Aero TT, but the (assumed) lack of deep sections means it isn't worth it in this situation....lower rolling resistance is the priority.

HA, I take it you are being sensible and saving yourself for Sunday?

LOL, no point in wasting a perfectly good Sat by not riding, plus a 25TT will be less effort and slower than doing the Sat training/chaingang ride.

If you mean the tyres, they may say they are quicker but the 4 I've been through they are also quicker to give you a flat, 20 miles in total over 4 tyres and they all look like they have done 10,000 for me the biggest waste of money I've spent on tyres

Their wheels are a different matter though

I used to use Fortezza Tricomps and was happy with them. I've recently changed for Schwalbe ultremo R's though and I won't be going back.

They seem to resist cuts better, and go like shoot off a shovel. Also, if you can test them to their limits through a tight corner then consider yourself a quality bike handler.
