I've got about £150 to spend. Any recommendations? Don't really want to go second hand, but will consider.

I got a Tacx Satori, you can have it for £100 excellent condition, I recently moved to a new appartment so dont have the room for it, in Chester by the way.

+1 for the Tacx Satori

£149 from Decathlon, includes floor mat and front wheel riser, comes with barmounted variable resistance. Great value for money, quiet and smooth.

How do you find it for getting up to resistance (if that the correct term) somebody else said it took ages to warm up so that it delivered the correct resistance; other than that it looks good.

I also have one of these.
Not sure what you mean by correct resistance?
It works straight away. Changing gears, alters resistance to simulate hills etc. So I randomly move up and down cogs now and then to get a sensible workout.
Far better than those ones with bar mounted adjusters, what a pfaff they must be.

I can assure you that the resistance of the elite fluid turbo reduces over time as it warms up. Sure it works, but if you want to use speed to maintain a constant effort then you'd be wasting your time. You might still be working up a sweat, but you'll be putting in less and less effort over the first ~1hour. So to get the most out of it you'll need to use rpe or HR (allowing for cardiac drift).
