I've recently invested it a small toolbox via the internet , complete with tools , that clips onto the dowwntube. Its made by Topeak, so i thought it was gonna be all i would need. Now i've got it, and am able to see the actual size and quality of the content, I dont think its gonna be much good. What do you take with you when out and about ????

On my road bikes I carry a Topeak Hexus. What I've used most on it are the tyre levers  the allen keys and screwdrivers are useful too but they are used mainly off the bike, I've never really used the other tools.

For my other bike I also carry a cheap multi tool with allen keys/ screwdriver and started to carry another with spanners and a chaintool (as I knew my chain was in urgent need of replacing).

On both bikes I'd carry a quick link, not a tool but useful

I use fizik saddle bag... If you pack it carefuly its like the tardice..

I can get... 2 spare tubes, crank brothers multi tool, puncture repair kit (with tyre leavers) , loose change.. then i also put my house keys in it, and mobile phone in a waterproof case with my driving licence for id incase of accident and also 10quid note incase i get tired and need to get taxi home..lol
pump goes in pocket in shirt..

If it is it should be fine

I have the same toolkit & apart from the tyre levers (that are too small so I carry a larger pair of those) it contains most tools I need for road side repairs/adjustments.

I also carry:

2 x spare tubes
1 x roll pvc tape
2 x tie wraps
1 pair latex gloves
1 x spare gear/brake cable
1 pair wire cutters
1 x punture repair kit

all fits into a topeak aero wedge saddle bag.

Yep, thats the one, tyre levers look a bit weak, not sure they would be up to removing my 700x23 slicks i am using at the mo, maybe ok for the less stiff winter tyres i use. I suppose i should try them before dissing them !

I find those levers too short I use cheap plastic ones but a bit longer and I can get my durano pluses on and off no problem.

The tools are actually good quality apart from the tyre levers, and there is enough there to do more or less any job on my bike apart from the head set, crank removal or bottom bracket none of which you would want to do on the road side anyway.

I also find the individual tools much easier to get into tight spaces than a big clunky multitool.

Dummy storage bottle in one of bottle cages has two spare inner tubes, selection of zip ties and pair of nitrile gloves. Saddle pack has standard tyre levers, Crank Bros speed lever, puncture repair kit, self adhesive puncture patches, small allen key only multi tool, larger multi tool with mini socket set, adjustable wrench, chain tool, 7/8/9 speed powerlinks, another pair of nitrile gloves, tyre boot and some other bits I can't remember off the top of my head.

If I am going further and have my rack pack then I would also have a spare brake and gear cable. I plan to add some brake pads to the kit as well.

Lezyne Road Drive pump (the larger one) with frame mount bracket.

One spare tube

Cheapo puncture repair kit, £3 tops with patches etc.

Small multi-tool ( six allen keys and a cross-point screw driver)

Park Tools tyre levers

Two pairs of disposable latex gloves. They weigh nothing at all, and your hands get surprisingly mucky if you don't have them. Just chuck them away in the nearest bin after your visit from the Fairy. Well worth the investment to buy a box of 100, IMHO.

I hope you never need any of the above.

Happy rides, all...

Blimey,is this for a tour or a commute Mac?

I carry 2 tubes,2 tyre levers.3 allen keys,and a pair of nitrile gloves.
Maybe on a longer ride I'll take my chain tool and some kmc quick links.

This topic come up from time to time it all depends on how far from home you travel and what sort of "Plan B" you have to get home if something breaks ect and is there a bike shop on your route.
