If it's shagged already, a hammer and chisel/punch will probably do the job.:okay:

Looks like it might be one of these. Personally I'd hesitate before taking a chisel to it - it would be quite easy to start breaking off teeth one by one, and you can only lose so many before you've effectively chipped off all your purchase. From the looks of it, someone's already had a go along those lines. When you do get the tool, use it with caution: make sure it's really well seated, don't let it slip, 'rock' the pressure until you feel it start to give. The one thing you want to avoid is stripping more teeth. (Is it possible the reason your Shimano tool won't fit is because of the damage to the teeth? If so, it might be worth trying again, maybe applying a little encouragement with a hammer?)

Are you sure that you have got the correct tool as some of these manufacturers have a crafty way of making you buy new tools. Instead of bits broken off I think they deliberately machined in to make it difficult if not impossible to use the normal tool.

Thanks for the reply to be honest I'm not too sure. The slots aren't broken splines but the tool I have is just a fraction too big

If it's just the diameter of the tool that's too large (ie it's the outside edge of the splines that won't fit) then you could try some judicious filing to slim it down a smidge, coupled with tyred's suggestion of the crank bolt + washers to seal the deal. Just don't take off so much that it won't work on your new BB!
