Afternoon all.,
One of my old bikes is haunting me and I've decided I'll give this over to you for your help.
Short version
What can I replace a Hope M3 front brake with - and it needs to come as a lever-caliper unit from ebay and cheap
Long version
I used to own out in Spain a MTB with Hope M3 disk brakes.
The front brake started to bind so I removed the entire assembly - lever to caliper - and brought it home so I could give it to my LBS to see what they could do.
(I had to bring it home you see, because I couldn't face trying to ask for a refurb in my god awful Spanish!)
My LBS said they couldn't refurb it and a replacement was around £150.
So I decided it was time to 'retire' my old yellow friend and bought a road bike which I shipped out there.
And in my excitement of having a shiny new Giant Defy2 to play with I didn't care what I did with the old brake, so I've misplaced it.
So my old MTB was destined for the tip and that would be the end of my problems..
Hooray.
I loved you mate but good riddance now because you are too much trouble.
Then a mate 'rescued' it.
"I'll have that, its better than mine"
So we agreed he could have it, on the premise I am not its owner, mechanic or responsible for it in any way. And if he kills himself on it its entirely his own fault.
A month goes by and I get an email
"this bike will kill me, it only has 1 brake. Can you get me another"
Chuff me, I'm back to sodding square1.
And he is tighter than a ducks waterproof nether regions. So now the fix I had to do in the first place and was such a PITA I decided not to bother, is back in my court and this time the fix has to be cheap.
So, what can I replace a Hope M3 front brake with - and it needs to come as a fully filled and bled lever-caliper unit from ebay and needs to be cheap because I'm pretty certain old tight ass will try to make out this is all my fault and not want to pay more than a farthing and a fart.
