I'm a big fan of the magura rim drive models. IMHO, tyre drive trainers tend to either slip, eat tyre, or leave a tell tale spray of rubber flecks up the wall behind them. Whenever I've compared things at a similar price point, the rim drive has also been quieter. I suppose rim wear is a risk (its easier to check and replace a tyre than a rim) but as both my bikes run discs front and rear, the rims have an otherwise fairly lonely existence.

If you do go for a tyre model (and plenty do) its worth keeping an eye out for a spare back wheel with a turbo tyre.

I have an Elite Mag Alu turbo trainer and it is superb for the money. I have done loads of miles on it over the past month and I am really impressed. Just got it at Xmas. I also have no issues whatsover with tyre wear so far. I am using Michellin City's on my hybrid, they only cost a tenner each so I am not bothered if it ruins it. So far I can hardly tell though.
