Have you ridden that far before? Have you been experimenting with nutrition for during the ride, will you be stopping for proper food regularly during it?
Hi vickster. Yes did the same last year but unable to remember what I ate immediately before!!! Won't be stopping for proper food en route. It will be jelly babies and fig rolls.
I would try and up my input of potatoes or some extra pasta for a few days. I like porridge anyway so I get that carbohydrate input by default. Poached eggs on toast for breakfast are good too. Eat a couple of bananas as well.
I'm not a sports scientist BTW. My longer rides tend to be with those who have a couple of pints beforehand.
I find cycling a lot easier after a beer or two.
As for long distance riding the best advice is to take your time and not go 'flat out', just let the miles rack up at a good steady pace. I'd expect to do Leicester (My home as well) to Skeggy in about 8-9 hours with a couple of 'refreshment' stops en route (But I'd rather go up to Derbyshire any day then cross into Cheshire cos Mum lives there now)
Thanks for the info from you all and will certainly take this on board. In previous years I have done this trip in 5 3/4 hours. Not bad for a 52 year old woman cyclist hey. Will certainly enjoy the fish and chips and a pint when I get there. Thanks again.
