Been racking my brains here thinking about what to eat and drink that is different on tomorrows ride?

Nrg drink & Narna is abit same old same old.

Remembered as a lad an ' old boy ' who took along a flask of tea,a pipe,1/2lb of bread & butter pudding and a hip flask of Rum.

Sounds very up market.

He was a lean as a rake as fit as a fiddle. We called him Lofty (Don Estelle)as he had a very baggy pair of shorts.

But, man could he ride and many times put shame upon us
' whippersnappers ' his words.

How long is your ride?

Will you be making stops?

What's the weather going to be like?

There are a lot of factors to be considered with regard to hydration and nutrition prior, and during, a ride.

Have a read of this; it might be useful.

Have fun. ;)

I've recently been eating 'Special K' bars which any supermarket seems to stock. I asked a similar question and a common thread of Haribo popped up!!

When I was in Marks & Spencers the other day, I noticed that 'Percy Pigs' were almost the same nutritional content as Haribo i.e. 80% carbs, so recently it's Special K bars and Percy Pigs. They've seen me comfortably through a couple of 100 mile rides.

Marvellous!

Not specifically for cycling, but when I was an active gym goer last year, if I had an overlong cardio session I found that 'Brunch Bars' or 'Tracker Bars' were excellent, and they were often cheaper than a lot of the energy bars, but did the same job.

Raisin or Orange & Cranberry???????

It's the O&C for me, taste just like a healthy chocolate orange.
Forget the Hazelnut ones, they're only eaten by people who don't like to enjoy themselves

In my experience one thing is for sure…..all “energy bars” (that are sold specifically as energy bars) are over priced !and hardly anyone (that I know) who‘s been riding for a while uses them!!! You can get the same or better from a super market for less and with a better variety of flavours. My fav thing to take is homemade flapjacks though…Mmmmmmmmmmmmm:biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:

Sorry to hijack the topic slightly................

I've just started cycling recently and sfter doing a few 5-10 mile rides I upped this to around 30 miles on Saturday. Average speed was around 15mph but we had a few long stops so we were out for around 3 hours in total. Anyway, made the mistake of only taking juice and by the last 5 miles I was really struggling for energy.

This weekend I'm hoping to do around 45 miles and now realise the importance of eating on a ride!

If you were cycling at 7:00am for 3 hours at around 15 mph what would you eat before and during the ride?
