The asterisk would be a good option I think - it's what they did for Barry Bonds' home run record. Rather than just have an embarrassing blank space I think it would provoke a conversation as to why that rider was deemed different to the others.

Yeh I agree.
It's just so bloody sad how everything became polluted. I probably always though of them as gladiators on the road and then the veil fell and the '' freight train '' arrived in the shape of Festina. Reading Christophe Bassons account at the minute. Again sad reading.
