Hi All,

Ok, I did my first 50 mile bike ride a few weeks back and the biggest thing I noticed was the saddle sore, not a problem on shorter rides (any more) but obviously now I am doing longer rides it's time I solved this problem.

So I am going out tomorrow to get some cycling trousers, my question is how do I know what size to get.

Do I go for the same size as my jeans or do I go for a size slightly larger???

I'm going out for a good 60 mile trip on Sunday and would love to sort myself out with a pair.

Cheers

My local cycle shop is small and does not have a changing room, which really sucks otherwise that's exactly what I would have done.

Most manufacturer and retailer sites have size guides

Are you getting lycra shorts? What size jogging trousers or pyjamas do you wear for example - I would think an Altura or Endura short would be similar

Will your local shop really not let you try the shorts on out the back?

Do you mean trousers or shorts? Most sites have a size guide which is fine if you know your waist size. Most shorts are stretchy so slightly smaller is usually fine unless you go for a baggy style.

And try not to go for a baggy style. You want them a little small so the chamois stays put. Not really chamois any more, but padding. And many are cut so they provide muscle support as well. There are also liners for shorts, padding is good, and you can wear shorts over them if you are more modest than lycra allows.

Cheers all for the tips, I got a pair of shorts with a padded licra inner which can be removed so I can where any shorts or tracky bottoms over the padded licra inner, I went for a size 34 which is my normal size and they fit ok. Im going online to order a couple more pairs.

I did 53 miles today and no saddle sore whatsoever.

All smiles lol
