Some of you may have seen my other thread, I've just purchased this - http://www.quellabicycle.com/varsity-cambridge - and plan to commute on it so need to fit some guards somehow, I know some of you suggested P clips which I'd never thought/heard of. So knowledgable people please help me again:

1) Which mudguards shall I order? Somewhere like Wiggle if poss as bike is coming tomorrow
2) Are P clips cycling specific or is this something I could get in my local homebase etc :blush::blush:

Also I saw SKS clips mentioned, what are these, do I need them, does it depend on the guards etc?

Rear wheel has horizontal drop out, it says chainset has a spring clip but i'm not sure what this is (:blush::blush:again!)

Thank you all in advance, you always give good advice, I'm not mechanically minded at all, just wanna get on and go (but preferably without a wet/brown streak up my back)

To be honest, mudguards are vile to fit and you've said you aren't the most mechanically minded

Take the bike to the LBS and get them to supply and fit ;)

my LBS just supplied the p clips when I recent,y had a rack fitted to a conversion they were doing. You'd need a bike shop for them I think

Mudguards are one of those things that fit much more easily if the bike is designed for them, with eyelets and clearance. Otherwise you take a really pretty bike and make it fugly.
Rear wheel removal is rear-wards, so it won't affect mudguard mounting.
Spring-clip is not a thing. The code is a chain, not a chainset, so it is probably a tool-free masterlink.
You can get P-clips elsewhere but bike shops always have them.
The lower chainstay-bridge fitting of rear guard is best done with a small ziptie rather than clamp.

should have got an old frame with eyelets & built your own ss  Although your new bike was probably cheaper than my conversion project

Mudguards are more effective the longer they are. Things like the flying fender or Topeak defender above keep spray off your bum crack, but that's about all.
Options for full length guards:
P-clips (can also be found in hardware places) : http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/p-clip-rubber-coated-black-prod5058/
These come in different sizes to go round differently size tubes.
Axle Runners: http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/pdw-eyelet-set-for-full-metal-fenders-pair-prod38197/
You would have to drill out the QR hole for the fatter bolt-on wheel axle. Don't use at the back as it could make your wheel slip.

SKS clips : http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/sks-secu-clips-for-front-mudguard-stays-per-pair-prod666/
These bolt to the frame/P-clip/axle runner, and you plug the loop at the end of the (double) stay pair in. You need a pair at the front so you don't go over the bars if something catches between tyre and mudguard, and a pair at the back so you can pull the stays out to let you get the wheel out after a puncture.
double stays: http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/sks-mudguard-fitting-kit-prod8043/
single stays (no good with the clips): http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/axiom-stainless-steel-mudguard-stays-set-pack-of-8-prod37344/

You would generally get the SKS clips with the mudguards
