Popped into WH Smith yesterday and was tempted to buy a cycling magazine after recently getting the bug (have always cycled but previously it was mainly just to pop to the shops - now I'm doing longer weekend rides, considering commuting and was glued to this year's Tour de France). However I was faced with a huge choice and ended up not buying anything.

What titles would people recommend? I'm interested in general cycling and also sport stuff and would prefer to get one, to start with at least, that encompassed most aspects.

Thanks for any recommendations.

I have a copy of Cycling Weekly. It is an old copy but I am sure they still do it. http://www.cyclingweekly.co.uk/

Might be a bit expensive but it has lots of stuff in it. Racing news, events, tips, products to buy, etc.

Cycling active.
+1 A very good read, IMO, and it covers real-world stuff in a variety of disciplines. It covers bikes in the £300-£1k bracket and it will have road bikes one month, MTB's the next and shoppers / town bikes after that.

Cycling Active or Cycling Plus, which ever looks the more interesting (to me) in that particular month.

I subscribe to Cycling Active, a good mag that appeals to me as a female leisure cyclist/commuter. The kit and bikes reviewed are sensible while Cycling Plus is aimed at a different type of cyclist...rich and/or more money than sense  I got a half price deal but they do good gifts with subscriptions too

I prefer Cycling Active. Cycling Plus is great if you want to dream about spending £££s on the latest bit of flash kit but Cycling Active seems aimed more at the 'normal' enthusiast.

I've stopped getting magazines now, got sick of reading the same repetative things, lost count of reading about "How to get up Hills faster" for example and it does not make any difference to me.

Even reading about rides around the country has no appeal as I will never do them, and when you see a little piddly 12 mile ride on your doorstep, it makes you wonder at times, how many people would travel miles to do it, and local riders would not even bother as they have rode that area that much, that even they would not do it.

The only thing any good I did find was reviews on new gear.

These days, I put my money in a little box that I would have spent on Cycling Active, Cycling Plus and Cycling Weekly and buy a cycling book instead.

Peleton - stylish, nice photography, writers mostly OK-ish, must make huge losses and is bound to crash and burn in a few months. Until then it's a great read. (For heaven's sake don't take out a subscription.)

hahaha

Guess what the cover story on Cycling Active was this month.

I'd say that you could probably find 95% of the content of all these magazines for free on t'internet. I buy the odd copy of Cycling Weekly for, say, a train journey but that's it. The repetition quickly does your head in.
