im thinking of upgrading my brifters,iv currently got the old sora with thumb shiftersand they work well however iv been using the drops a lot more and it isnt ideal when you try and change gear ,also id like the ones where the gear cables as well as the brake cables are designed to run under the tape ,im running a 105 compact double and its a 8spd cassette with a dura ace rear mech , whats the ones i want ,do they have to b 8 spd or what (are ten spd shifters different amount of indexing cos i know the chains diff)and for a double (or will ones for a triple do?)
i dunno what ones to even look at ,i think the new sora ones fit the bill but are they not ten spd now?
105?tiagra?:surrender:

Provided the Dura Ace mech is not the 7400 series then the 9 and 10 speeds will be fine. Hopefully your wheel should take a 10 speed cassette.

I doubt you have the 7400 rear mech as it only works with 7400 shifters as the cable pull is unique to 7400

Im sure they would cos theyr 105 compact from another bike , tbh it was the rear set up i was more concerned with as its a dura ace mech and i really dont wana change that

Lots of questions there jim55, can't answer it all but have a couple of bits that may help.

New Sora with paddle shift is 9spd so you are also looking at a cassette and chain swap there also. Sora is the first point at which you get the paddle shift option.

If you want under bar tape routing then you are looking at 105 5700 shifters as this is when the under tape routing came in unless you move further up the tree to Ultegra/Dura Ace but you start to get in to big bucks there. 105 5700 is 10spd so you need to factor in new chain and cassette and possibly a new front mech also.

When i last looked about the cheapest i could find 105 5700 was £150 from Rose Bikes or one of the other German sites. They are not cheap parts to upgrade on a bike...
