I took the back wheel off my bike yesterday and this fell off

What is it? Will it be expensive to replace? And do I need to be worried by the gouge in it (does that point to a bigger problem?)

Cheers

Have you found out where it's come from ?

It's a Norco Search.

I lifted the back wheel to remove it (bike upside down) and heard this hit the ground. Don't know exactly where it came from.

Put the part on a shelf somewhere and carry on riding. If there is no detectable difference in ride, then the part wasn't critical. If there's no obvious hole where the part fits (I personally don't recognise it at all) then it may even not be from the bike.

Difficult to get an idea of size as you have included no reference for scale in the pics. The only thing it resembles slightly is some kind of cover for internal cabling.

Thanks for the replies.

It's about 2cm long.

If it the cover for the rear mech, does that mean the bike is still safe to ride? (I am not mechanically minded at all). Does it need replacing?

Might it just push back on? I expect it's function is to keep the muck out of the mech. Important on an all surface all weather adventure bike I'd say. Pop the bike back to
Evans if you can't fix

while you appear to have the answer..I might suggest anyone who has an odd part fall off the bike checks the brakes before proceeding, just in case.
Similar thing a few years ago, something went ping and I saw it fly off but couldn't find it. Ah well, proceeded, gears changed. ..a mystery then.
Not for long...several hundred yards I had a slight downhill approach to a T junction, applied brakes ...
Apparently it was a brake pad that flew off

its for a rear rack or mounting rear mudguards -
normally fits flush with frame but swivels when needed
