People keep saying things are an aquired taste and that you need to keep trying them to appreciate them.

For me i think its true partly.

I used to hate olives .....after persevering i now love them

i tried celery a few times though and still cant stand it

Whisky is a strange one....sometimes the smell puts me right off....but then sometimes i can sit and sip 3 or 4 glasses and love it.

Anyone else aquired a taste for something...?

Totally with you on that one, hideous stuff. I'd rather eat my own eyes quite frankly

The celery-haters are doing themselves a disservice. Ignore the raw stuff if you like, but to miss it out of soups, stocks and braised things is to lose an irreplaceable flavour component, and to write off half of the world's great dishes. Google soffrito if you don't believe me - Italians know about this kind of stuff.

Coffee. I was 18 when I drank my first cup of coffee and liked it, despite trying to like it for several years. Sprouts are growing on me (metaphorically speaking...)

Celery and flat-leaf parsley, the unsung heroes of Italian cuisine.

Absolutely. OT, but have any of the growers round here had any luck with flat-leaf parsley? Mine has consistently refused even to germinate, on a sunny windowsill. I want forests of the stuff.

It can take a long time to germinate so don't give up. I planted a row more than a month ago and it's only appearing now. I usually plant some in plugs so I can fill up any bare patches.

Thanks! I'm reassured by this. I think I've been giving up on it too soon...
