Does anyone know what free hub this is in the photos please?

This is off my 2013 Specialized Tarmac Sport, they are DT Axis 2.0 wheels with 10spd cassette. The free hub has no markings apart from "L B". I have Googled the image, it seems like it might be a Joytech but the only ones I can find are 9spd. I have also seen a similar looking Giant freehub but don't know if this is the same thing.

The freehubs I have found (which I don't know if they're the right thing) are £30 which seems a lot. Is it new wheels time? This set of wheels have about 5,000 miles on them and the freehub is making graunching sounds, pedals spinning freely and not engaging etc. i.e. the free hub is past it. I have removed the seal and rinsed through with WD40 but it's not a lot better.

Any ideas of where to get a replacement?

I had mine go on a Spesh hybrid years ago & it turned out to be a specialised own freehub  IIRC it was £20 from local Spesh dealer

Thanks. They are loose bearings in there but you cannot get them out and there is no easy way of dismantling the hub - I have seen some sites that say they are not serviceable.

I will be a bit of a doom monger I am afraid. Spesh hubs have a reputation for being made of cheese. I don't know how they get away with it as they seem to keep selling the bikes but search the web and there are loads of similar stories. In fact, my very own brother has suffered at the hands of the Spesh freehub gremlin. His freehub just seized solid at about 18 months old and not high mileage. Luckily for him he has an ace brother that just happened to have a Shimano Tiagra rear hub in the tool kit that weekend and rebuilt his rear wheel around the superior & reliable hub overnight while at a campsite

IMO you will be better served buying new wheels or if the rim is still ok then get the wheel rebuilt around a decent hub. Shimano 105 rear hubs are less than £40 and should last forever and Tiagra are even cheaper and are very reliable and long lasting units.

Thanks, you talk sense. The rear rim is okay but has a fair amount of wear. I am thinking that a new set of cheapish wheels for about £100 might be a better idea than changing the freehub for £30. The bearing cones are a bit worn on the rear wheel too, I put some new ball bearings in a 1,000 miles ago and it is better but there is still more play than i would like. Next question is what wheels...

Thanks, that's a good price for Aksium's. I did have a pair of them on my last bike until I wrote the front wheel off on a rock in the road! I like the sealed bearings on Aksium's as they really are hassle free.

Not much better at that price , Fulcrum 5s are better but cheapest is about 170 quid , the cheap Shimanos are Ok but don't last I found , Mavic freehubs are really good I found but the rims eventually crack but only after thousands of miles.

Thanks Eddy. I've always had my eye on some Shimano RS80 but since they've moved on to RS81 you can't get them for under £360 which I am struggling to justify, so I might hit the button on those Aksium's. I think I'll spend the day procrastinating!!
