the little lines on the saddle rails mean? I guess its something to do with measuring set back/fore aft position, but not too sure

It's just to help setting up the bike, and record position if you remove the saddle for any reason.

no. they are measures so you can fine tune the adjustment of your saddle

saves you having to mark the rails when you want to know where the current setup is before taking apart or adjusting.
