I'm trying to switch to a triple crankset on my bianchi ...this is the crankset I was thinking of buying on ebay. Currently I have a 10 speed casette fitted, and a double chain ring. The rear and front mechs are campagnolo but im not sure if i need different mechs to work with a triple???

Are the mechs different for compacts and triples?

I got that chain set to work with a short cage rear mech on a 13-26 cassette a few years back. The chain was very slack in the small-small combination and just made it in the big-big. In real world use i.e. avoiding extreme cross chaining, it was fine. The front mech was fine but......

One thing to watch is that depending on the seat tube diameter, you might need a longer bb axle e.g. a 115.5 (iirc) to get the front mech to work properly (because the inner chainring of a triple sits further in than the small in a double and the mech can't get to it unless the chainrings are moved out a bit). The Campag web site has (or at least did have) the details.

Hi

Any campagnolo 10 speed rear and front mech will work with this crankset. Just choose from our ebay shop depending on your budget. We do also sell these products on our websitesprockets.uk.com at the same price. We can offer you a discount just by using the following code at checkout which applies to alll products . We also accept paypal.

Hope we can help

... sort of. As they say in the ebay ad "requires a bottom bracket with ISO spindle and 111mm or 115.5 mm axle " . I've just found the Campag .pdf and it says a seat tube diameter of 28.6mm requires the 111mm axle and seat tubes of 32mm and above require the 115.5mm axle.

But.. you might get away with whatever is on the bike. Campag said that a short cage rear mech wouldn't work with a 29 cassette and it worked fine on one of my set-ups (this time a compact rather triple).

PS Some of these Campag documents can be quite strange. I've got one where the picture has a big red cross through it with the word "Yes" underneath and next to it one with a green tick with "No" !

The older Veloce front shifter will work a double or triple, but the setup to get the triple working correctly is tricky to get right - a lot of trial and error on both height and alignment could be required. Ideally you should have a triple front mech as well to make it easier to get the chain off the granny ring.
