What chain

Help!!

I have a rockhopper comp fs and I need to replace the chain. It's quite an old rockhopper possibly late 90's early 2000's. Good condition none the less. Can anyone advise me on what chain I would need for this? Shimano decore equipment throughout. Cheers.

How many speeds/gears does it have? (the number of cogs on the gear cassette on the rear wheel is the crucial part)

Alright mate. Thanks for the reply. Theres 3 cogs on the front and eight on the back. Shimano decore equipment. It says on the front cog ' shimano IG chain only'.

so you want a shimano compatible 8 speed chain. is the chain worn out as you may find a new chain on an old cassette on the rear will skip like crazy. if it isn't worn but has just snapped then you may be in luck.

do you have a chain splitter/joiner tool?

I'd go for something from SRAM or KMC, if you google "SRAM 8 speed chain" or "KMC 8 speed chain" you will be alright, you can get something perfectly good for under a tenner from KMC. Bit more for SRAM but they come with an easy to use joining link.
