I’m looking to get a new road bike and was wondering which brand people recommend. All are same specs with ultrega. Looking at Scott, Canyon, Ribble, Trek and Vitus. All are around the same price within my budget. I’m 6’5” which excludes some brands as far as I can see as they don’t make frames big enough?? Might be wrong tho

And that fits you best :okay:

Canyon might be an issue as they don't have UK showrooms for test rides (ditto for Vitus unless you are in Ireland close to Chain Reaction, although not sure what test ride service they offer)

Trek give lifetime frame warranties, not sure about the others (so check if that's a consideration)

Of those personally, I'd buy a Scott just because they are less common (not that I would buy one)

Might sound obvious, but if you don't like it aesthetically, or it doesn't fit quite right then no matter how much you kid yourself, you won't ride it.

I'm also 6'5" and struggle with the modern fetish for compact frames as I really don't like sloping top tubes, and finding a modern bike that has a straight, or at least straightish top tube isn't always easy. FWIW my road bike is a 60cm Cannondale CAAD10 and I love it.

Also stating you want a 'new road bike' is quite a generic thing, do you want sporty geometry or relaxed geometry, as you don't mention any specific models of the manufacturers you've listed, this would help people advise you better, but at the end of the day you can have a world of knowledge but it's still got to appeal to your eye and fit you properly.

Also don't get hung up componentry either, you specifically mentioned Ultegra, but in doing so you might overlook a 'better' bike that has 105, or Sram or something else, again knowing models you're interested in would help folk give you opinions and even alternatives.

Good luck and welcome to CC

Canyon would be my choice, option for XL and 2XL as well. Hope you get what you are looking for :okay:

Buy whichever brand your most trusted local bike shop stocks.

There will objectively be very little to choose between them and you'll get good advice and post purchase support if needed.

Or buy a Bianchi. Because :becool:

Hello Dave and welcome to the forum.

Don’t get hung up on brands, a lot of brands are made by Giant, rather look for what they offer in terms of sizes, warranties and specs. It’s also a good idea to formulate what sort of geometry you want, endurance, sporty or somewhere in between.
Don’t discount Decathlon who as thr largest worldwide retailer of bikes can offer great vfm ,probably the best on the market. As above you’ll get service and help if you descide to buy at your local bike shop plus you can try, something which is really essential with your height.

Good luck.

Dolan bikes have a good reputation.

Also, if you need a particularly large or non standard frame, you could consider Mercian Cycles or similar, who would build to your specific requirements. May cost a little more than an off the peg bike, but you would be getting something special. Not particularly recommending Mercian, but that's a Mercian I'm riding on the left in '69 and was still in use in 2010.

Most bike brands are sticker- based. The frames come out of the same big 5 Taiwanese bike factories and are dressed up in the same Shimano groupsets.

Pick a bike that fits you. Different brands and models may use different frame geometry or different sized components.

If you are especially heavy or light, check out the different wheels they supply and note how good spares support is for the wheels.
