The Viking seems to be well received by the ones on here who ride one (angelfishsolo i think).

My daughter has a coyote (not this model) and for a low end bike it's reasonably well built and definately a step up from the usual BSO fare.

If you can up your budget slightly you may also want to consider what I think is the best new bike available at this price bar non, the Triban 3 from Decathlon - it is £299.00 though.

Oh, and remember if you're commuting you'll probably want to add some mudguards, maybe a rack, perhaps some clothing, a helmet and at the very least a decent lock..... this can quickly add to the budget.

I looked at those three and sadly I would not recommend. The parts look to be very old design. Can't remember which but one has a solid rear axle, screw on freewheel, another has some sort of the shifter mounted on the bars. I suspect quality will be very low all round.

Agree, decathlon is the place to look - superb bikes for the money.

The Viking has been a great bike thus far. Yes it has trigger shifters on the flats and a solid rear axle but apart from one stiff chain link it has not missed a beat. For the money it is a lovely machine.

From my experience of the Viking you suspicions are incorrect. Yes it uses some old fashioned technology but big deal. I have done some pretty serious riding on it and as said previously apart from one stiff chain link it has not missed a beat.

thank you will have to save some cash now!!!
Why? If I had your budget I wouldn't even be looking at new bikes TBH. You'll get a great bike with decent spec components for your budget if you look around.

Check out place like ebay, and if you see something you fancy just post a link on here, people will gladly tell you what they think and give you their honest opinion. Even check with your LBS, they may have second hand bikes you could pick up too.
