Hi people!
I'm new to cycling well i mean i haven't cycled or owned a bike in a long time. My question is I've been offered a muddyfox explorer I think it's a mountain bike. I would hopefully be riding to work as well as pressure and was just wondering if this was a good bike to start of with or should i be buying something else?? Also I'm F508 what size frame should I be looking at? If it is a mountain bike do I need to charge the wheels? Thanks

From a quick google it looks ok for going to work on assuming it has been looked after.

Depenadant on the age you may need to change the brake pads, chain, gear block and grease the wheel bearings and bottom bracket in a worst case scenario.

Did you mean 5 foot 8 " tall?
For size their is not much to choose between the 2 smaller sizes if you can get the seat height right for your leg ( sit on it with your heel on the pedal at the bottom of the stroke your leg should be straight ) as the top tube (reach) is the same .

Thanks for your advice! There's so many different style/types of bikes out there its hard to know what to get. If the muddyfox explorer is a mountain bike should I change the wheel as I will be riding on the road?

There's nothing wrong with using a mountain bike for the road, but if it's got front or even full suspension, it'll be painfully slow, especially on the knobbly tyres. The wheels will be fine but if you are going to be purely on the road, I'd definitely look at slicks. I did on my old hybrid and my average speed doubled - that's how much difference it makes.

I agree. A hardtail (with lockout) is about the best all round bike you can get. Put slicks on it and it is a pretty fast bike. Also great for getting up hills as it has that lovely low gearing
