Stem levers. They're long obsolete, and perfectly placed to give one a nasty gentlemanly injury!

Well, I've always thought they were eminently logical, if, like me, when riding a drop-bar bike, you spend most of the time on the flat section of the bars. Likewise interrupter brake levers. It involves the minimum hand movement to reach the lever, less that bar end or down tube. That wouldn't, of course, apply to those of you who ride mainly on the hoods.

My solution to recognising that I was riding mostly on the flat section was to switch to flat bars.

I have these on one of my bikes (and, I think, another set that I keep meaning to get round to selling) - I would challenge the "crotch-risk" issue, unless you ride/honk in a very strange way!

They provide a very simple alternative to down-tube levers, especially if you ride with flat bars - I like them.

i had no issues with them on the first bike i had as an adult, and preferable to the downtube shifter i had on my raleigh olympus as a youth. having said that, integrated shifters/brakes on road bikes and micro-shift gears with thumb shifters on flat barred bikes are far preferable to any other solution…
