Really enjoying todays ride, fastest to Stiffkey 27 miles at 18.1. Never been higher than 17 before so very happy till. Punctured about 8 miles later, changed tubes and then tried to pump up. Broke the new tubes connection off in the pump! Wouldn't come out so had to call for assistance my 86 year old father came to my rescue, saved me a 25 mile walk. Has anyone ever had this happen?

Never happened to me either tbh. So far have been ok with no punctures on longer rides (only tend to do 20 max, more of a sprinter over a 12 mile distance)

The pins in presta valves sometimes unscrew iirc. It can take a bit of practice to get the pump on and off.

Done it a few times, but. fortunately never out on the road. Now have a track pump at home and a mini pump with a hose attachment for connecting to the valve, which puts a lot less pressure on the valve stem if it has to be used out on the road.

Hi fellas, no Poweredbyveg I often ride the coast road up to Wells and then home via back lanes.
Boydi could you please let me know what you mean by a hose attachment as that might have made a difference!
Thanks in advance

The hose attaches to the valve so you are not trying to hold the pump onto the valve and pump at the same time , that way you are not putting twisting forces on the valve.

I bust a valve stem once. It came right out when I removed the pump, like an airgun pellet and vanished. It went perneeeeoooooww like in the Westerns! Lucky I wasn't standing over it.

RE: "I bust a valve stem once."

It's happened to me as well - I thought it was just an old tube and the rubber around the valve had perished. Perhaps not.
