I recently bought a mountain bike in order to get back into cycling. I used to cycle a little 10 years ago and thought it would be a great idea to get some fitness back again. Being out of touch with the bikes available, I cant believe how much choice there now is so have been lurking around the forums for some time getting valuable advice.
Anyway, I have been out on the mountain bike for a few weeks and found it very hard work indeed....so I did some investigation on the forum and a few people had suggested getting some slick tyres. Having been doing 8 miles at a maximum 4 nights per week and feeling absolutely shattered after, i decided to take a visit to the bike shop and get some slicks fitted.

I can honestly say its like a new bike - I can't believe the difference a pair of tyres make. I went out for a spin last night and did 8 miles and felt great after and could have stayed out alot longer but had to be back to look after the kids. So thank you forum members from a newbie!

It seems to be the default bike model of choice for many folk does the MTB and there's nowt wrong wi' that as they're plentiful, usually strongly-built and versatile. One does tend to find, however, once one starts to do a few miles that the wide tyres and weight tend to become a drag (literally) and the seeds of corruption to the dark side are sown.
Once the skinny tyres go on it's not long until you're looking at hybrids, then those funny bikes with curvy handlebars.........

We will have you in lycra obsessing over weight weenie gadgets soon padawan .

I started again on a subway 1 which i slicked up , then moved to a road bike and for every day distance riding its a lot more fun .When i do dig the rigid MTB with semi slicks for winter riding its more tiring for the same distance .
