Not to sure?
On Sunday I need to ride from Weston Super Mare back to Bristol Parkway to get the train back to Worcester.

Now I am alright getting back as far as Gordano Services and up and over the River Avon on the footbridge as I've ridden that route before, but after that I cannot see a sensible route that avoids either a main road or a dual carriageway.

Anyone with local knowledge that could assist with a better route option please?

Thanks

I've plugged the route into google and I've cycled on all the roads it shows ... which bit are you bothered about .... the ring road has an adjacent cycle path. I'll have a think about which I prefer... and why.

I've put in the route in reverse too as it gave a slightly different option. If going up to the Mall I'd take a slightly different route and I would say that is fairly busy.

I did the same and typed it onto Google Map, it was the stretch on the B04056 Southmead Road, the A4174 Link Road that concerned me. But you say that the link road has an adjecent cycle path, which makes life easier and safer!

Proposed route HERE

Not sure if that has a cycle path the entire length ... definitely along bits of it... it's mainly busy around 8 and 4 (the Aerospace stuff at the top tends to keep those hours.

That is an alternative route - which avoids the busy roundabout where it says Filton on the top (though coming from the B4056 is controlled by traffic lights and not too bad). Braemar Ave has speed cushions as does Northville Road so neither are really busy, then into a little back road to access the bridge across the railway to the cycle path around the MOD and then that is almost all cycle path to the train station.

The B4056 (Southmead Road) is a nice wide road after a short stretch with parked cars on either side. I think you will be fine especially on a Sunday. Your map shows you on the adjacent quiet road to the A4174 but to be honest it is not an awful road to ride, and on a Sunday I would expect you would be fine to just blaze down it. It is a nice descent. After the lights, and after the railway bridge, look out for the next set of lights then hop off onto the New Road cycle path which takes you right up to Parkway, ish..

I hadn't noticed the Sunday bit, but is it this Sunday??

There is a large load going from Avonmouth to Latterridge but via M49, M4, M5 (upto junction 13 to turn around, back to 14 to get off and then go down to Iron Acton. They are saying about 6 and a half hours for that journey, and that it may cause traffic delays on those roads and perhaps other nearby roads.

Top job, many thanks for your help and guidance guys.

Yes its this Sunday, a few of us are doing a extended and more scenic route (I hope??) from Redditch down to Weston, via the Forest of Dean, Chepstow and over the old Severn Bridge. Then try and pick up as much of the coastal road past Portishead, Clevedon and Wick St Lawrence.

We aim to be in Weston sea front by around 3pm and while others have arranged transport to get home, my arrangements have just changed and not for the better either!! Therefore I need to come up with a plan to get home.

Its fair to say that if we did the most direct route it would leave me enough time to ride back home again, but the group (six in total) want to do a more scenic route. But arriving at 3pm isn't leaving me enough wiggle time really to ride back again.

Hence the plan to get the train back, but the most direct train Weston to Bromsgrove means changing trains twice, so the time spent waiting I could be riding. Which is why I've now looked at riding back to Bristol Parkway then one train to Worcester Shrub Hill, I can then ride home from there.
You could always just follow the A38. Most of it is ok.
Yes, I done that on two other occasions to get home, and its not so bad in a small group, but don't fancy it on my own to be honest
