Hi
Just seen this, after curiosity got the better of me, upon reading your comment on @ DC Lanes post-injury update
As I wrote, when you first registered;

Not always good!

When I first went out with the Club, no-one spoke to me at the meeting place (despite it being tightly associated/inter-linked with the 'LBS')
No-one spoke to me en-route, or told me where we were going

Once I got dropped, only one person took pity on me, & gave me some basic directions in order to find the nearest A-road back towards home

Even though I'm still a member, & raced MTB & CX in their colours, I've never been out with them again

Plus, being a parsimonious Yorkshireman, it was cheaper to pay the subs, that join a different club & buy all new kit:angel:

Hi mate, that was an old thread. I have actually joined a local club a couple of weeks ago and went out with them for a short mid week ride last week and planning on going tomorrow but might just go out on my own not decided yet.

like you said, you feel a bit of an outsider at first, i will see how it goes but my initial thought are the ride may not be for me, too slow or too fast, not really into cafe stops either, like to push the pace when i want, back off when i want etc. but shall see ill try and push myself to go tomorrow

Who did you join?
'Calder Clarion'
'Wakefield CC'
'BBM' (Knottingley)
'Featherstone Road Club'

One reason, why I generally go out by myself
Granted, yes, I will stop for a cuppa, if I'm just 'pootling around'
If I head east, I'll call at 'Squires' (the biker café, at Sherburn-in-Elmet), or Birkin Fisheries (a few miles from Brotherton)

When I started on two feet, I actually competed in 'club-colours' (before I joined an actual running club), & that apparantly got up the noses of a few members:dry:

Adam,
What kind of distance and pace are you looking to do? Where do you like to ride? Also, where in Wakey do you live? I'm not sure I could commit to 2-3 times a week but up for riding together as frequently as other commitments allow, subject to you not being a budding Contador ;)

hello chaps, this is an old thread..

I joined calder clarion, and tbh its ok, i went out with them a few times but also enjoy riding on my own so not been for a while

I ride anyting from 10 miles to 60 depending on how much time i have.

And as for rides, i ride all over, out to tadcaster/york if i fancy flat or out to holme moss way if i fancy some pain

im in outwood btw

as for pace, i average around 15mph over mixed terrain, but looking to get faster

Adam

I know a few in the 'Clarion'
They also used to organise the Cyclo-Cross in Thornes Park, but I think Wakefield Triathlon Club do that now

Give me a 'shout', I'll ride with you if I can/if you want
I'm not that far away, & know Outwood rather well, as I grew up in (& lived around) Lee Moor/Stanley, until we moved to where we are now (on the 'wrong side of the river')

I'm in Outwood too. Just back from 550 miles in four days, averaging c14mph-15mph dependent on climbs. Seem relatively matched for pace etc. PM me if you fancy a ride, just give me a week or so to recover ;)

Yes, Adam
We'll see what we can do

I work a lot of weekends (NHS), but I'm -quite surprisingly- rostered off every Saturday/Sunday this month
I will be ParkRunning on the Saturday mornings though

Mid-week evenings?
- I normally attend my running club on Tuesday/Thursday (when on earlies)
- Wednesdays are sometimes free, if not being 'dads taxi' (haven't done it this year, as they don't seem to be doing the rides, but did go out with Wakefield Triathlon Club, last summer)
- Fridays are generally spoken for, if I'm not on a late-turn

So, possibly Mondays??

Weekday evenings ok for me, or alternatively in the off-season from junior football (now to Aug) Saturday or Sunday anytime, subject to other plans. I'm flexible really.

Somebody call it....
