I think it must be easier for sellers to change a price than take item off sale when they don't have any. I got a single bed sheet for £12 or something and wanted another, £450!

Its apparently cheaper - if it’s an item that the seller sells regularly, but they have temporarily run out of stock, then it’s more cost effective to bump the price up for a bit then bring it back down when they get more stock. Or so I was told...

or maybe it just saves the hassle of re-creating the advert,

Thats not a bad idea. You're unlikely to sell something worth £10 for ten grand, but it only takes just 1 person to buy it at that price and thats your holiday paid for. You never know when someone with more money than sense comes along.
 
Often things are priced by algorithms which sometimes goes wrong.
